Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I mentioned on Friday that the question I probably get asked most often is about affordable online options for bridesmaid dresses. If you’re interested in reading that, you can check it out here. But the second most popular question is actually a series of questions. Clients are constantly wondering when they should send out their save the date, invitations, request RSVPS back, and more. While we outline all of these dates in our wedding planning tools, I wanted to list a few of the important ones below for your quick reference.
If you have any other questions about important dates or wedding planning in general, don’t forget you can post them to our Facebook wall or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will answer them during Wedding Chat Wednesday tomorrow!
When should I buy my wedding dress? There is no exact date you should buy your dress however if you don’t want to pay a rush fee or be forced to buy from a sample rack, you will need to allow at least 6 months for your dress to come in with another 3 months or so for alterations. While many come in prior to the 6 month mark, some take longer as well. But it’s safe to allocate 6 months for it to arrive.
When should I send my save the dates out? Generally I say as soon as you have booked your venue, confirmed your date and finalized your guest list. However, you don’t want to send them out any sooner than 1 year in advance. Any farther than that and guests may loose your announcement or forget. I generally suggest sending them out 9-12 months before although you can send them out as last as 6 months prior.
How soon should my bridesmaids order their dresses? Much like your gown, bridesmaid dresses can take anywhere 3-6 months to arrive, and again they will need to allow time for alterations. To avoid the rush, I’d say you should pick out your maids dresses shortly after choosing yours and ask them to order as soon as possible.
When should I send my invitations? Invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks in advance. I would aim for 8 weeks if you have a lot of out of town guests, 6 if the majority is local, but do send them all at once.
When should I request my RSVPs back? With RSVPs I generally say 3-4 weeks prior to weeding day. I personally requested them 4 weeks prior. This gives time to get in touch with guests who haven’t responded, tally up your final numbers, and adjust your rentals and final catering contract in plenty of time.
How long do I have to send out my thank you notes? For events like bridal showers, I say as soon as possible within 1-2 weeks post event. For the actually wedding, proper etiquette says you have 3 months after the wedding to send all your thank yous.
