Having a clever wedding hashtag has been the make or break of all engagement announcements for the last few years. I have read countless Facebook posts from couples asking for input on what their hashtag should be. But, I’m here to tell you, hashtags are OUT! Yep, your read that right. If you caught our Topic of the Day on InstaStories last week Wednesday, you heard me tell all the reasons wedding hash tags are an ineffective way to gather pictures from guests at your wedding. If you missed it, here they are again:

Not all guests are on social media.

Surprisingly not all of your guests are on Instagram and Facebook. If they aren’t, the only way you’ll get the pictures they take is if they email them to you.

Guests don’t upload every image they take to social media.

This means you could be missing out on some funny/awesome/sweet/perfect shots from your big day.

It’s hard to find a unique hashtag anymore.

With more and more people using hashtags for their wedding, it’s hard to find one that hasn’t been used before. You don’t really want your wedding pictures mixed in with someone else’s do you?

Not all guests know you have a hashtag.

Even if you put it on your wedding website, use it frequently yourself, include it on the information card in your invitation and plaster it on a sign at the reception, some guests will still not know what it is.

Private Images Don’t Show Up in Search Results

If a guest’s Instagram profile is private, his or her image won’t show up under the hash tag when it’s searched. Again, you could miss out on some pretty funny/awesome/sweet/perfect shots.

Okay so now that you know hash tags aren’t the best way to gather and share images from your big day, what is? One of my favorite tools is Appy Couple. Appy Couple is one of these do it all wedding websites that also doubles as an app guests can install on their phone.

It has a slue of features you can learn all about on their website including a place for guests to RSVP (one of my favorite parts). But, the thing that makes it all worth it is the portal for guests to upload all the pictures they took straight from their phone. No need to find, remember and use the hash tag. No need to upload 100 pictures to social media. No need to text them to you either. All guests have to do is open the app on their phone and click upload.

The other great thing about it is that you can control what pictures guests see. If you don’t want guests to see all the embarrassing moments, you can simply hide those images.

So stop fretting and racking your brain for every possible creative combination of your two last names. Just head to Appy Couple, purchase your package and forward the information on to your guests!
