Colorful Whimsical Brewery Wedding

As you all know, we’re all about beautiful weddings that showcase each couple’s love and personalities. Incorporating details that are unique to you and representative of your story guarantees not only a one-of-a-kind design but an incredibly special day. Matt and Amanda’s wedding is just that – unique, personal and perfect.

Shot by the talented Jessica Hunt Photography, this colorful whimsical brewery wedding looks like a it was a blast. Here’s what Jessica had to say about Matt and Amanda’s big day.

From the Photographer:

I’m so excited to share with you Matt and Amanda’s beautiful wedding photos from their wedding at Monday Night Brewing in Atlanta, Georgia. This wedding day was full of unique elements, DIY projects by the bride, and oh-so-much emotion. I photographed Amanda’s sister’s wedding in 2016, and I was so honored to join this family once again this year for another wedding day.

Amanda and Matt one day both swiped ‘right’ while on Tinder in their new city Atlanta, Georgia, and as they say, the rest is history! After dating for sometime, Matt proposed while they were in Belgium and after that they set out ot plan their dream wedding day.

Matt and Amanda have a special love for spending quality time together and good craft beer, so they decided to get married in their favorite place to go after work and on the weekends in their new hometown! Monday Night Brewing has recently opened Monday Night Garage, an event venue prepared to host parties and weddings in Atlanta. Amanda and Matt’s beautiful wedding day was complemented perfectly by the unique and eccentric space that is Monday Night Garage. Amanda went all out with planning! She ordered dried florals and arranged all of them herself. She incorporated the use of dried hops into her floral crown and the boutonnieres to tie in the brewery aspect of her wedding day. Amanda even made the balloon arch that she and Matt got married under herself! Their wedding day ended with a super fun new tradition; the smashing of a piñata cake instead of just cutting a regular cake!

I hope you enjoy all of the little details and moments in these Monday Night Garage wedding photos, and that Matt and Amanda’s is giddy, young love inspires your heart the way that it does mine!

From Amanda + Matt:

How did you all meet?

Tinder for the win! We were both new to the city and where looking for friends online, talked for awhile and decided to go watch a movie. The first date was a bit awkward or at least I thought so! But we went hiking soon after that and got caught in a rainstorm. We were both smitten after our dance in the waterfall and our mountainside mud fight.

Tell us the proposal story.

Girl. Movie proposal! I went to visit Matt in Belgium, and we spent the first day in Brussels. The next day we did a short day trip to Bruges, one of THE most romantic places in the world. We get there, and he is telling me all about the Romeo and Juliet story behind this Lake of Love there. We walk through the city, and I’m in awe just taking tons of photos. The city was really packed that day, and I could tell Matt was frustrated but I didn’t know why. So at the end of the day, he asks to just sit in the garden by the lake to chill before driving home. We walk over and he gets sooooo nervous. And it hits me!! Like I know what’s happening!

He starts talking about the day and how much he loves traveling with me… gets down on one knee, and I just immediately am down on the ground with him hugging him! I don’t think I ever smiled that big in my life, I didn’t even look at the ring or answer until he asked a second time. I thought my reaction was enough of an answer but engineers like straight talk! Ha! We drove to his hotel in Liege and celebrated with some wine. I found out later, he was frustrated all day because the spots he had planned to ask where all so crowded and he couldn’t do it when and where he had planned. But it was perfect. Just me, him, and the Lake of Love.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We chose our favorite craft brewery in Atlanta for our venue and themed our wedding around it. Monday Night Brewing was one of our first dates and we just keep going back, it has a special place in our heart. What better way to get married then at a place you love with amazing beer!  We asked all of our male guests to wear funky ties, a key theme of Monday Night. The brewery theme was strung through out our wedding invites, the barrel guest book, bottle centerpieces and hop
boutonnieres! Our color palette was burgundy, blush, dusty blue, and navy. Our wedding style would probably fall under brewery, whimsical, quirky, industrial and DIY.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
We wanted the wedding to stay on a low budget and Monday Night really didn’t need much decoration, but the little bits that were there, I made. All of the centerpieces were used wine and liqueur bottles we took from friends and parties which I then painted and placed greenery in. The ceremony had a balloon arch with some faux flowers placed in it, which we made through our side business, Amplified Balloons LLC. Other than that we really just let the venue shine, because it didn’t need anything.  The ceremony was in their outdoor area with a brick backdrop. The reception was held in their chandelier room that had chandeliers covering the ceiling, a burlap wall, a picture frame wall, a moss wall, and barrels everywhere. What more could you ask for?!

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
All of the bouquets were handmade by myself, the bride. I bought faux and preserved flowers off of Afloral.com and got to make a huge, customized bouquet that matched my style and colors perfectly.  The boutonnieres were homemade with Afloral supplies and fresh hops. The bridal hairpiece was also homemade, made form faux hops from Afloral. And all of the centerpieces were filled with the leftover supplies. Creating everything myself was a daunting feat but it allowed me to really make a unique wedding that fit our personality and vision.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
The wedding cake was definitely a unique and fun part of our wedding. Instead of spending a lot of money on a cake, I made our own wedding cake shaped pinata complete with flowers and greenery. The cake was filled with gold coins, a throw to it being St. Patrick’s day. We smashed the cake together to the song “Hit me with your best shot” and it was one of the funniest parts of that day. The pinata turned out to be way stronger than I intended, guess I am a better engineer than I thought!

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Since the venue was very nontraditional I wanted a timeless dress that I would love forever. I wore an ivory, off-the-shoulder, sweetheart neckline, mermaid dress with a pleated tulle overlay.  To add a little bling to the dress, I wore a silver and pearl beaded belt. My shoes for the ceremony were sparkly silver cage heels and then I changed into some comfy Toms for the receptions because I was getting over a foot injury.  I kept my jewelry simple with a rose gold bracelet that Matt bought me and some silver earrings. My veil and headpiece were both homemade. The guys wore navy slim fit suits, brown leather shoes, burgundy ties from Mens Warehouse. All the men had some lucky St. Patrick’s day socks from ties.com. Matt’s tie was a slightly different pattern to make him stand out. His watch was a Nixon that I bought him for Christmas.  The bridesmaids all wore dusty blue dresses and navy shoes. The ladies each choose their favorite style of dress off of Azazie.com. The flower girl wore a ivory leotard and a homemade burgundy and blush tutu.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
I looked forward to the first look the most. It was my favorite part of the day where I got to spend an emotional moment with my husband before the wedding and the chaos. It was so nice to be able to share that private moment where we could just embrace each other and get out our nerves before the wedding. Runner up moments were reading my vows and smashing the cake.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
If you are doing a DIY wedding, plan plenty of time for all your projects and enlist your friends to help out. You don’t have to do it all on your own! It’s great to have a budget but splurge on what matters. Photographers are so important, spend your money to get someone you love who does quality work! They capture all the moments you want to relive. Save your money on decor, not on photographers. It’s totally possible to have a wedding <$20,000 and end up having the time of your life with gorgeous photos, I did!
