Floral Print + Navy Intimate Brooklyn Wedding

Over the last few years, we’ve noticed a major trend in weddings. Couples have been forgoing large weddings in favor of more intimate, luxury affairs. We’re quite smitten with the idea and today’s wedding is a perfect example of how you can pull it off.

Rachel and Matt were married on August 12th in Brooklyn. They rented a stunning backyard garden through AirBnb. With ivy growing up the wall and beautiful blooms filling the yard this rental was the perfect setting for both Rachel and Matt to get ready with friends and family. From looking at the pictures, you’d have no idea their gorgeous wedding portraits by Sasha Chou Photography + Video we’re taken in the middle of Brooklyn.

After photos, the group headed to Dino Italian restaurant where they not only had their reception but hosted their ceremony. Dino is gorgeous on it’s own but Rachel and Matt were able to accent it perfectly with low, white and greenery centerpieces and simple laser cut table numbers.

This wedding is full of little details we’re just obsessing over, from the mismatched floral print bridesmaid dresses to the marble top tables in the restaurant. Keep scrolling to check out this lovely floral print and navy wedding.

Tell us a little about the two of you – how you met and the engagement story.

We met in college. We both did a week-long hiking trip as part of orientation and met after returning to campus after the trip. Rachel brought homemade cookies to college in an effort to meet new people and make friends, and as soon as she met Matt she offered him some. We lived together throughout college, and our love of cooking and baking together continued to grow. After graduating, we moved to Brooklyn and fell in love with the restaurants and gardens in Boerum Hill and Fort Greene, which is how we found Dino, where we got married. It was magical to have so many little things we love come together for our wedding.

When did you get married?

Saturday, August 12th, 2017

How many of your friends and family attended your big day?

We had 37 guests total, including a wedding party of 10.

What was the overall budget for your wedding?

Around $14,000

Which element of your wedding was the most expensive?

The food and drinks were our big splurge! We kept the wedding small so that we could get a nice intimate space and go all out on food and cocktails, which are important to us.

What was your favorite part of wedding planning?

Picking our drinks and dinner menu and designing our invitations and place-cards. It really made it feel like everything was coming together into a cohesive aesthetic that reflected us and what we love.

What was your least favorite part of wedding planning?

The venue search was stressful in New York because a lot of places are very expensive. Once we nailed down a venue everything was much more relaxed and fell into place because then you have a much better idea of your budget.

What was your favorite detail from the day?

We got ready together at a nearby Airbnb. Our family and wedding party were both there, and we just had a wonderful, relaxing time getting dressed and playing board games and taking photos. It made the day seem so much longer and we have so many great photos of our friends just relaxing.

What was one way you were able to cut costs or save money to stay on budget?

Keeping the guest list small and using one venue for both the ceremony and reception was the most important thing. We also cut things that we could do ourselves because everything adds up quickly (videography, professional hair and makeup, professional invitations, DJ, etc.).

If you could give one piece of advice to couples currently planning their own wedding, what would it be?

Communicate early and often with your partner and family, and skip the things you’re not excited about. There are so many traditions and options, just choose the things you’re looking forward to. That will let you focus on the things that are important to you and make the day feel like it’s unique to you and your partner.
