Destination weddings over the years have become more popular and it’s hard not to see the appeal of them. Who wouldn’t want to spend their big day somewhere different where they can also have a fun time with family and friends? Did you know that 1 in 4 weddings are a destination wedding?

I’m going to give you some quick tips that should place your planning a little easier and not as stressful. Destination weddings can be as simple or customized as you want them to be which is why I think people love them so much.

Tip #1: Research your locations and know your legal requirements // You want to start off your planning by thinking about the locations you may be interested in before you start planning. The main part of this is to narrow down your options so you can quickly find out what legal requirements you will need to fulfill. There are some places that require you to be in the country for a few days before the ceremony. You will need to factor all this in when you are making decisions. You also want to look into venue locations and figure out what options each location has.

Tip #2: Decide what help you need // Planning a wedding is a big undertaking but when you add in planning it in a location miles away you aren’t familiar with, you may need help. If you decide on help look into a wedding planner that specializes in destination weddings. If you have family and friends traveling for the event, you’ll also want to look into a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings. The planner and age should have contacts and vendors they would recommend in the area you are wanting. The travel agent can also help plan the travel end of things so you don’t have to be bothered with it.

Tip #3: Find out what’s included // There are a lot of people who have their destination wedding at resorts. If you go this route, find out what is included int he wedding package. The package may work for you if you have a small wedding party but when you start getting into a bigger group there may be lots of add on fees. You want to make sure you know this upfront. Sometime you can take out things you don’t need int he package to replace with items you need to keep the cost under control.

Tip #4: Go on a site visit // I know you may be planning your wedding at a far off location, but please go on a site visit. There are some locations that will even let you d a trial run of everything so you can see how everything will work on wedding day. Additionally, you will even get to taste the catered food. Site visits are also key so you can learn about actual ceremony locations. This is really important if you are doing a resort wedding. You’ll want to see how many locations they have and how private they may be. You don’t want to be where a ton of onlookers may be.

Tip #5: Have a backup plan // Please make sure you have a backup plan in place. When you are planning a wedding a destination, especially a tropical location, you need to have plans in place in case the weather doesn’t cooperate. You want to make sure you figure out what you will do if you have to move indoors.Shieka Doctor January
