Imagine this, it’s 3 days before your wedding and you wake up with a runny nose, scratchy eyes, a slight cough, and you can feel it getting worse. Don’t think it will happen to you? That’s what everyone thinks. But wedding day illness happens to so many couples in the days leading up to their wedding. The lack of sleep, stress, and poor eating all contribute to a less than healthy immune system. I always suggest incorporating more of these known immune boosters into your diet starting about a month before the big to ensure you wake up healthy and happy on wedding day.

Yogurt: The probiotics found in yogurt are healthy bacteria that keep the gut and intestinal tract free of disease causing germs.

Garlic: Garlic contains allicin, which fights infection and bacteria.

Green Tea: The polyphenols (plant antioxidants) give green tea its immune boosting effects.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D helps immune cells identify and destroy bacteria and viruses that make you sick.

Vitamin C: It’s no secret that vitamin c helps boost your immune system. But it’s not just limited to citrus fruits. Leafy greens like spinach and kale, bell peppers, Brussels sprouts, and strawberries all contain a healthy dose of vitamin c.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E can be found in spinach, broccoli, almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, and sunflower seeds. Eating these foods will not only help boost your immune system but will help in giving you a natural wedding glow too!

Vitamin B6: Foods rich in vitamin B6 include bananas, lean chicken breast, cold-water fish like tuna and chickpeas. Increasing your intake of these foods will also help decrease bloat.

Vitamin A: Up your intake of carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cantaloupe, and squash to receive the health benefits of Vitamin A.

While incorporating these things can certainly make a difference, it’s also important to remember to drink lots of water (maybe hold off on champagne till you’ve had your daily 64 ounces) and get plenty of sleep.
